An eFoil lifts you clear of the water on an electric motor and a hydrofoil wing — silent, and without needing waves or wind. At E-SURFER we have ridden every model we sell since 2017. This page tells you which board suits you, and which expensive detour you can skip.

Which eFoil is right for you?

For around 80 percent of our customers the Audi e-tron foil by Aerofoils is the right board: balanced handling, mature engineering, and a spare parts supply that will still work three years from now. The remaining 20 percent come from watersports and want to ride hard — other boards serve them better.

  • Most riders: Audi e-tron foil Performance or the Aerofoils Adventure with the large battery and the large charger — both €15,769. Forgiving while you learn, still exciting once you are good. The large battery buys you noticeably more time on the water, the large charger gets you back out faster.
  • Sporty, with watersports experience: LIFT5 (€16,149) or LIFTX (€15,149) from Lift Foils, or the Audi e-tron foil Competition (€14,999). Sharper, more agile, more demanding.
  • Riding straight away, no learning curve: HyperFly eFoil Scooter by Aerofoils — €15,999. The simplest machine we sell: if you can stand on it, you can ride it. That makes it the first choice for yacht charter and rental fleets — anywhere guests change constantly and nobody has time for a long briefing. And at home too, when family and friends want a turn.

Why you should not buy a beginner board

Because you will stop riding it after a few hours. The usual route — a big, forgiving beginner board first, the real one a year later — costs you twice and ends in a resale at a loss. Buy the carbon board you actually want, and fit an Aeroloop for the first few weeks.

The Aeroloop by Aerofoils (€599) is a buoyancy ring that mounts on your board. It gives you the stability of a far larger board on take-off and forgives exactly the mistakes that would otherwise put you in the water. Once you stand confidently and start to foil, you take it off — and carry on riding the same board, now at full performance.

That is the best of both worlds: the fast learning curve of a beginner board, without compromising on the board itself. We have taken enough customers down this route to recommend it with a clear conscience.

Which eFoil brands do we carry?

We carry deliberately few brands — the ones we have ridden ourselves and keep spare parts for.

Aerofoils

Our best-selling brand, and a German development: Aerofoils builds the Audi e-tron foil in three versions — Performance and Adventure as all-rounders, plus the Competition for very sporty riders — alongside the HyperFly eFoil Scooter. The accessories work together, from the Aeroloop to wing sets, shims and spare propellers. Spare parts reach you quickly.

Lift Foils

Lift Foils is the pioneer from Puerto Rico. The LIFT5 and LIFTX are the reference for ride feel and wing technology in waves. If you come from kiting, winging or surfing and want to foil properly, this is your brand.

Awake Boards

Swedish manufacturer with high build standards. The Vinga is convincing on battery performance and finish, and sits at the upper end of the price range.

Fliteboard, Waydoo and SiFly

For Fliteboard, Waydoo and SiFly you will find accessories, spare parts and tuning components with us — propeller upgrades, shims, service kits. We do not carry complete boards from these brands. Years of experience and testing led us to that decision.

What should you look for when buying an eFoil?

Four things that shape daily life with the board and rarely show up on a spec sheet:

  • Spare parts and service: An eFoil is technology in water. Before you buy, find out who replaces seals, propellers and the battery — and how long you will wait for parts. A European manufacturer such as Aerofoils has a real advantage here.
  • Battery quality and safety: An eFoil battery holds a lot of energy in a small space, and it works in salt water permanently. Premium manufacturers use better cells, proper battery management and housings that stay sealed. With a badly built battery, fire is a real risk, not a theoretical one. Ask about cell type, certification, and how the battery is protected against salt water.
  • Wing system: Large wings lift earlier and forgive more, small ones are faster. A manufacturer offering several wing sizes lets your board grow with you.
  • Transport and storage: Lithium batteries belong in a fireproof box, and the board wants to sit dry. Budget for both from the start.

Can you test an eFoil before buying?

Yes. We run test centers in Berlin, Bremen, at Lake Garda, in Barcelona, Sotogrande, Porto Heli and Dubai. You ride the boards yourself before you decide, with instruction from trainers who have been in this sport for years. The eFoil course costs between €249 and €299 and is credited against the purchase price.

Our most honest advice after eight years in the sport: nobody should buy an eFoil from a spec sheet. Ride two or three models and you will know within an hour which one is yours.

FAQ
ANSWER TO
YOUR QUESTIONS

How much does an eFoil cost?

An eFoil costs between €9,000 and €16,000 for a complete setup including board, foil, motor, and battery. Entry-level models like the Waydoo start around €9,000. Premium eFoils from Lift Foils or Aerofoils cost up to €16,000. Used eFoils are available from €6,000 according to E-SURFER in Berlin.

What is the best eFoil for beginners?

The best eFoils for beginners are the Lift Foils eFoil and Aerofoils. Both offer large, stable boards, beginner riding modes, and intuitive hand controllers. E-SURFER recommends a board size of 5'4" or larger for easier balance. Our team has been teaching eFoil lessons since 2018.

.

How fast does an eFoil go?

An eFoil reaches speeds of 25–50 km/h (15–30 mph) depending on the model and motor power. Beginners typically cruise at 20–25 km/h. High-performance eFoils like the Aerofoils can exceed 50 km/h. Most riders find 25–35 km/h the most enjoyable cruising speed.

How long does an eFoil battery last?

An eFoil battery lasts 45–90 minutes per charge depending on rider weight, speed, and water conditions. Cruising at moderate speed maximizes battery life. Most manufacturers offer spare batteries for extended sessions. Charging a fully depleted battery takes approximately 2–3 hours.

Is an eFoil hard to learn?

An eFoil is not hard to learn with proper instruction. Most beginners can stand up and glide within their first session. A full riding experience typically takes 2–5 sessions. E-SURFER offers professional eFoil lessons at the Berlin showroom — the fastest way to get started safely.

Do you need a licence to ride an eFoil in the UK?

No national licence is required to ride an eFoil in the UK — it comes down to local and operator rules. Harbour authorities and byelaws govern the coast; the Canal & River Trust requires a licence for all boats, the River Thames requires registration, and Scotland requires a Scottish Navigation Licence for motorboats. There's no national minimum age either — that's set locally.

Which eFoil brands does E-SURFER sell?

E-SURFER sells the leading eFoil brands: Lift Foils, Aerofoils, Fliteboard, and Waydoo. All models are available at the Berlin showroom for test rides before purchase. As Europe's eFoil specialist since 2017, E-SURFER offers expert advice to find the right eFoil for every rider.

Can I test ride an eFoil before buying?

Yes, E-SURFER offers eFoil test rides and lessons at the Berlin showroom. Testing before buying is strongly recommended — every rider has different preferences for board size, foil setup, and motor power. Contact us to book a test session before making your purchase decision.

What is the difference between eFoil models?

eFoil models differ in board size, motor power, battery capacity, and foil wing design. Larger boards (5'4"–6') are more stable for beginners. Higher motor power (4–6 kW) enables faster speeds. Wing shape determines riding style — from beginner-friendly to high-performance wave riding.

What size eFoil board should I choose?

Beginners should choose a larger eFoil board (5'4" or bigger) for maximum stability. Experienced riders often prefer smaller, more agile boards (4'6"–5'0"). Your weight also matters — heavier riders benefit from larger boards. E-SURFER recommends a personal consultation before choosing your board size.

Can children ride an eFoil?

Children from around 16 years old can ride an eFoil with adult supervision and appropriate body weight (minimum approx. 40 kg). Younger children may struggle to control the board and handle the remote. E-SURFER recommends a supervised trial lesson before purchasing an eFoil for younger riders.

Where can I buy an eFoil in Europe?

E-SURFER in Berlin is Europe's leading eFoil specialist since 2017. We sell Lift Foils, Aerofoils, Fliteboard, and Waydoo — with test rides before purchase. Shipping across Europe is available. Visit our showroom in Berlin or contact us online for a personal consultation and individual pricing.

Where can you ride an eFoil in the UK?

In the UK you can ride an eFoil on many waters, because there's no eFoil-specific national ban — but the rules are local. Coastal use is governed by harbour authorities and byelaws; inland you usually need an operator licence (Canal & River Trust) or registration (River Thames), and Scotland has its own Scottish Navigation Licence. Always keep clear of swimming zones. Full overview: eFoils in the UK: rules, licences & where to ride.
